Spider-Man is Leaving MCU Because Marvel & Sony End Their Deal, And Fans Are Absolutely Devastated

In a shocking turn of events, Marvel Studios will no longer be involved with the making of the Spider-Man films. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has opted out of making future Spider-Man films due to disputes between Sony-Marvel's parent company Disney, allegedly over the distribution of films as web-sling heroes.

A Sony spokesperson confirmed the news some time ago. The studio said it was "disappointed" that Feige would no longer serve as the lead producer in the Spider-Man films.

Most of today's news about Spider-Man has misquoted Kevin Feige's recent discussions about his involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney's decision not to continue as the lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film, ”the spokesperson said in a statement obtained exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter.

However, sources told Deadline that the deal allegedly ended after the two parties failed to reach an agreement that would have given Marvel "a co-financing stake to move forward". According to Deadline, Sony rejected an offer from Disney that future Spider-Man films "could be a 50/50 co-financing arrangement between studios."

Sources added that Sony, led by Tom Rothman and Tony Vincikendra, came back with other configurations, but Disney did not want to do so.

Spider-Man was one of the biggest additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Marvel Studios and Sony first agreed to an agreement on Spider-Man in 2015, which allowed Peter Parker aka Spider-Man to become part of the highly popular in the MCU. However, Sony retained the rights to the character and was responsible for financing, distribution and "ultimate creative control".

Tom Holland made his debut as a wall-crawler in the MCU in 2016's Captain America: Civil War and in addition to his successful roles in Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, in addition to two successful standalone films, Spider-Man: Home Return and Spider-Man: For Home, which earned widespread critical acclaim and became Sony's highest-grossing film of all time at the box office.

Needless to say, Marvel fans are devastated about Peter Parker, possibly leaving the MCU. Many are having trouble imagining Spider-Man movies without that MCU connection.

After the announcement many marvel fans upset after hearing this news. They are giving their feedback on social media.

One Twitter user wrote, "Forgive me, I'm trying to imagine a third Spidey film, in which the MCU is completely ignored and Spider-Man was never a part of Marvel."

Another one said that, Tony Stark did not die for Spider-Man to be fired for MCU! We must save Spider-Man! #SaveSpiderMan, "another one wrote referring to the sacrifice of Iron Man aka Tony Stark in The Avengers: Endgame to bring Spider-Man back.
